"I think Red Bull will be kicking themselves now"
Peter Windsor believes Red Bull Racing shouldn't have brought in Max Verstappen to go for the fastest lap bonus point. The Formula 1 analyst says he has never been a fan of earning the extra point.
The right strategy?
Verstappen only entered the pits after Valtteri Bottas had a puncture. According to Windsor, that was not a good decision: “Theoretically, Max Verstappen's Red Bull Honda, which hadn't been anywhere near the Mercedes, should have inherited an amazing win on the last lap," says the Brit in his last YouTube video.
"But guess what? Max stopped the lap before for a new set of soft tyres to get the fastest lap," continues Windsor. “I think Red Bull will be kicking themselves now. Personally, I've never been a fan of that point for fastest lap. I think that is why Max didn't win today [Sunday]."
A difficult choice
Windsor has to admit that he probably would've brought in Verstappen himself for a fresh set of tyres. “But Max also said that his tyres were going off and he was on the radio quite a lot saying 'the tyres are going off' they would have finished third anyway. That's why I don't think we ca be too hard on Red Bull," Windsor concludes.
