Doornbos knows to whom Verstappen owes the victory: ''F1 is a team sport''
Contrary to the expectations of many, Max Verstappen won the second Grand Prix at Silverstone. It was a strategy masterclass and the win puts the Dutchman second in the driver's championship.
When talking in the studio at Ziggo Sport, Robert Doornbos immediately indicates where he thinks the most important link was this weekend. Of course, Verstappen did a great job, but according to the former Formula 1 driver, it is also possible to congratulate the team.
Stepping out decisive at Red Bull
''The strategist who decided yesterday afternoon that they had to qualify on the hard tyre. This has made it clear again that Formula 1 is a team sport," said Doornbos.
"The question is whether the strategy was decisive, or whether Verstappen could have won on another strategy. Of course, they have to do something else, because that Mercedes is normally too fast, but if he had started on that yellow belt he would have won too," said Giedo van de Garde.
