Auto, Motor und Sport: 'New chance at Spa-Francorchamps for Verstappen'
- GPblog.com
After the second Grand Prix at Silverstone, Red Bull Racing travelled to warm Spain with high expectations. Mercedes, however, recovered quickly and were once again clearly the best team in Formula 1.
Spa new chance for Verstappen
Auto, Motor und Sport were investigating the return of Mercedes. The team at Silverstone already had blisters on the tyres after a few laps, this was not the case in Spain. Max Verstappen was the one who was struggling with his tyres, which allowed Lewis Hamilton to get away with the victory.
''Together with Spa and Suzuka, Silverstone is the toughest track for the tyres. The track in Spain is also heavy for the tyres, but in a different way. With the toughest tyre that Pirelli had brought, Mercedes already had the advantage," the German magazine points to the different circumstances.
Opportunities for Red Bull Racing
So for Spa and Suzuka, AMuS believes that Red Bull Racing, which also had to make an engine change for Verstappen before the race, will be challenging again. ''The old engine at Verstappen also cost him some power, because the second spec gives Verstappen more power for a longer time. But that wouldn't have been enough to beat Hamilton."
According to Auto, Motor und Sport, there is also no tyre advantage with Mercedes. ''Red Bull might have preferred the softer tyres, but the C2 tyre was now just like the last race at Silverstone. Hamilton was simply the fastest on that tyre," AMuS analysis says.
