'Old Mercedes top chief Cowell rejected Ferrari's offer'
- GPblog.com
Andy Cowell is said to have received an offer from Ferrari to work there as head of the engine department. According to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com, the former Mercedes top man has kindly thanked for the offer at the Italian team.
A few months ago Cowell announced that he would resign as the most important man of the team around the Mercedes engine. The Briton said goodbye to the German World Champion in early July after playing a very important role in the development of V6 hybrid engines since 2014.
Cowell indicated when he left that he was keen to take on a 'new business engineering challenge'. It is not known if that is also the reason why he has wavered the interest of Ferrari.
Problems are big at Ferrari
At Ferrari there are currently major problems with the engine. The power unit from Maranello isn't competitive at all and the reliability on par with their competitors either. At Silverstone Sebastian Vettel had to deal with a stalling engine in the second free practice session and in the Grand Prix of Spain an electrical problem prevented a good classification from Charles Leclerc.
