Max Verstappen tops FP2, Daniel Ricciardo second
Max Verstappen took top spot in the second practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix. The Dutchman topped FP2 ahead of Daniel Ricciardo who threw up a little bit of a surprise for Renault and Lewis Hamilton in third.
In a frantic end to the fast lap period of the session, Verstappen managed to pull out the fastest of the lot with a 1:43.744. Verstappen finished third during the opening session of the weekend but well and truly halted what looked to be complete Mercedes dominance to take P1.
Ricciardo's P2 was even more of a surprise after finishing down in ninth during FP1. However, the Australian was forced into an early end to his session as he suffered mechanical issues with less than half an hour left of the session. The Australian's time earlier in the session got himself in front of the pair of Mercedes who had mixed fortunes during the opening at Spa.
After securing a one-two during FP1 Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished P3 and P6 respectively. Despite this the Silver Arrows remain strong favourites for qualifying and the race on Sunday.
Alex Albon (P4), Sergio Perez (P5), Lando Norris (P7), Esteban Ocon (P8), Carlos Sainz (P9) and Pierre Gasly (P10) completed the top ten.
It was a nightmare session for Ferrari powered vehicles. Alfa Romeo were the top finishers in P13 and P14 whilst Ferrari were 15th and 17th. It was even more of a struggle for Haas who ended FP2 last as they struggled with engine issues from FP1.
But ultimately the session belonged to Verstappen. The Dutchman continued his fine form to halt the Mercedes dominance.
