Daniel Ricciardo hopes to be on the podium with his Renault at the Italian Grand Prix next week. This ambition appeals to the Australian after his fourth place in Belgium.

"I have tried. The last lap may have been the fastest lap I've ever done in my life", he means to win the extra World Championship point for the fastest lap of the race. "We pushed the whole stint, but I was like, 'Why can't Mercedes get have a failure? Normally you don't wish that on anyone, but why not?", Ricciardo laughs in the after review of F1TV.

Subsequently, Ricciardo states in a more serious tone that he would like to get on stage under his own steam. "As much as I want a podium, as much as I want to earn it myself on the track. We were good enough to be fourth today. Maybe we can finish ahead of Max and take the last podium at Monza."

The driver from Perth expects to perform as well at Monza as he did at Spa-Francorchamps. Ricciardo is currently in eighth place in the World Championship, but the gap to number four Alexander Albon can be bridged. The difference is only fifteen World Championship points with ten Grands Prix to go.
