Where Ferrari managed to win last year at the Grand Prix of Italy, the team was unable to get a single point this season. According to Mattia Binotto, it has turned out to be a terrible weekend.

The moment Sebastian Vettel shot through turn one and hit a number of foam blocks, it was clear to Ferrari that the situation can always get worse than you think it can. Not much later, Charles Leclerc made a mistake, causing him to hit the tyre wall and crash out causing a red flag.

It is, therefore, a weekend to forget very quickly for the team from Maranello. “Certainly, it is the worst ending of an already difficult weekend. Not finishing the race is worse than performing poorly. With Seb, it was a problem with the reliability of the car. All these problems are lessons we learn and we need to look to the future and make progress,” Mattia Binotto said in front of the Sky Sports F1 camera.

Poor performance no surprise

The poor performances in Italy and last week in Belgium do not come as a complete surprise to the team boss. “We knew Spa and Monza were going to be tough. The speed of the current car is not what we want and we have to continue working on the developments for the car,” the Italian concluded.
