Binotto under pressure at Ferrari: ''How much more time do you give him?''
- GPblog.com
The problems at Ferrari are piling up. If you think you have had the worst in Belgium, both Ferrari cars will fail at the Italian Grand Prix. How long can Mattia Binotto stay on as Ferrari's team boss?
How much time will Binotto get?
Prior to the 2019 Formula 1 season, Maurizio Arrivabene will be put out on the streets by Ferrari. Technical man, Binotto, is to become the new team boss. At that time, there is no replacement for the vacant post of technical director and, on closer inspection, this double role does not seem to be good for the team.
Indeed, since Binotto was taken over, the team has come off hard. With a trick it was able to win some more races in 2019, but with that trick in mind the car went completely wrong. ''How much time do you give a man like that? There's a chance he can turn it around in a few years, but you don't normally get that much time in Formula 1," says Nick Heidfeld in his column for Sky Germany.
Fresh wind at Ferrari
''There have been many internal changes within Ferrari in recent years, certainly compared to Mercedes. Consistency is important, but on the other hand you should not continue with people who you know are not good in their current job'', says the former Formula 1 driver. So according to Heidfeld, a breath of fresh air is needed in Maranello.
''They need someone from the outside, who can join the team without different interests and take the lead. He needs the full support of the board and a free hand within the team. Ideally, it should be someone from another top team, who knows what's important'', concludes Heidfeld, where Toto Wolff's name seems the most obvious choice.
