Rumor: Horner supposedly on the phone with Perez after Vettel announcement
Sergio Perez received the news last week that he will be replaced at Aston Martin by Sebastian Vettel next year. He will therefore have to look for a new employer, and good seats in Formula 1 are few and far between.
One of the places that is still available is the seat next to Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing. According to the Spanish TV station Movistar, Perez has had Christian Horner on the phone this week.
'Gasly not a likely replacement for Albon'
That conversation had come about on the initiative of Horner, who wanted to know if the Mexican knows more about his future, what his plans are and what conditions he sets for it.
In principle, Red Bull Racing wouldn't opt for Pierre Gasly if they decided not to continue with Alexander Albon. Whether they indeed extend Albon's contract will also depend on his performance during the rest of the season. These are all signals that open the door at Red Bull for the possible arrival of Perez.
