Having driven in Spa-Francorchamps, Monza and Mugello before, Red Bull-junior Juri Vips will also compete for the DAMS Formula 2 team in Sochi. He will again replace Sean Gelael, who was injured in Barcelona.

Gelael crashed during the first Formula 2 race in Barcelona and broke a vertebra. In Belgium Vips took his place. The Estonian driver finished eleventh in both the main race and the sprint race. Two weekends later, in Mugello, things went significantly better for the Red Bull-junior. He finished seventh in the main race and then climbed the podium after the sprint race. He finished third.

Now that Gelael is still not fully recovered, Vips will also compete for DAMS in Russia. He was unexpectedly available because due to travel restrictions around the coronavirus he was unable to travel to Japan for the start of the new Super Formula season at Motegi, where he was to race for Team Mugen. "It is a great pleasure to continue in the car for Sochi and I have high hopes that we can fight for victory," Vips told Motorsport.com looking forward to Russia.
