Andreas Seidl, team boss of McLaren, is happy with the steps his team has taken in recent years. The team is now reaping the benefits of the reconstruction that was started after a number of disappointing seasons.

The team from Woking is now third in the constructors' championship, which is already a step forward compared to last year. Then the race stable finished fourth. Despite fierce competition from Racing Point, Renault and Ferrari, the team has managed to fight its way up the ladder. This advance has translated into the first podium for Lando Norris and the second for Carlos Sainz.

"The next step"

Seidl says in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport that he is very satisfied with the progress his team has made. He does expect it to be a tough job to hold the third spot at the constructors. “We have taken the next step as a team and with the car. We are third in the championship. We didn’t expect that before the season."

“We will not be blinded by the good results. On average, we have the fourth-best car in terms of vehicle performance. That is a step forward compared to 2019, when we came fourth, but on average we had the fifth fastest car”, the 44-year-old German explains. "We can always score good points on Sunday. Renault and Ferrari have more marked variations in their performance. That shows that we have a good basis with our car."
