Verstappen thinks qualifying was one of his best: "That was so satisfying!"
Max Verstappen has never started in a better position than P6 for the Russian Grand Prix, but that has changed this season. The Red Bull Racing driver came in second in qualifying, beating Valtteri Bottas' Mercedes car in the process.
During the press conference after qualifying, Verstappen is asked if it was one of his best qualifying sessions ever. "Yes, I think so. It felt really good. I really had to try to find the right balance because I was struggling quite a bit through qualifying. I had a hard time attacking the corners because I had a lot of oversteer. Step by step it went better," explains Verstappen.
Surprise for Verstappen
"My first run in Q3 was a bit better, but for the second run we made some adjustments. That gave me more grip and on this track, you need a lot of grip. That was very satisfying. It was a very nice lap to drive. It's not pole position, but for me to start the front row… I really didn't expect that," the Dutchman concludes.
