Qualifying results for the Russian GP: Verstappen P2, Hamilton not happy with pole
Qualifying expectations were that Mercedes would again achieve a 1-2. That didn't happen, as Max Verstappen produced a strong lap to beat Valtteri Bottas. Lewis Hamilton has now achieved his 96th pole position in Formula 1.
Due to the strong performance of the Dutchman, Valtteri Bottas ends up in P3, which the Finn is quite happy with, thanks to the start and layout of the circuit. Hamilton is therefore not satisfied with his pole position.
The usual top 3 is followed by Sergio Perez, Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz, all of whom have had strong Saturday afternoons. Alexander Albon will scratch his head, with a moderate tenth place. At the back of the field we meet the usual suspects, although George Russell has again provided a small surprise by reaching P14. Can he win the battle with Sebastian Vettel tomorrow?
