Barretto: 'This shows why Verstappen is a future champion'
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen finished second at the Russian GP in Sochi on Sunday, which gave him an excellent result. Not only for himself after two DNFs in Italy, but also for the team that has never really been close to the podium before this year. This is mainly because the track never really suited the car, which once again demonstrates the abilities of the Dutchman.
Future champion
Looking back at Formula1.com, Lawrence Barretto explained how Verstappen did almost nothing wrong in Russia. "Should anyone ask why Max Verstappen is heralded as a future champion, the 2020 Russian GP will be among a long list of examples to back up that claim."
Barretto added: "Red Bull had never previously scored a podium in Sochi, with their car simply not suited to the track."
Verstappen is brilliant
"But Verstappen found a way to outperform the RB16’s capabilities once more, first qualifying a brilliant second – 1.1s clear of team mate Alex Albon – and then taking a sublime P2 in the race, splitting the two Mercedes. Brilliant."
In short, Barretto praised the Dutchman who achieved an excellent result in Russia, when expectations were not too high given the past.
