What should Red Bull do with Albon? "Wonder how many more times he can do this"
- GPblog.com
Alexander Albon had a dramatic weekend in Sochi. He was constantly slower than Max Verstappen and even in the race he couldn't stand out. In the end he finished tenth, after he was often in fights in the race. After the podium in Mugello the expectation was that he had found the right rhythm, but after Russia everything seems to be back to normal.
Robert Doornbos sees this too, who wonders what Red Bull Racing has to do with the Thai now. "Two weeks ago you were the hero of the team and you get your first podium and this weekend he was hopeless", he explains in his column on Ziggo Sport. "You just finish a minute and a half behind your teammate on P10. A very difficult debrief for Albon and I am curious how many times he can still do that".
Losing a bit everywhere
"It's probably a very long discussion at Red Bull about who should drive the car by 2021. Pierre Gasly is of course preying on the seat, but it's a bit crazy to suddenly give him the seat in the middle of the season. I think Albon still has time to secure his seat until the end of the season", says Doornbos. He has juxtaposed the images of Verstappen and Albon and sees the differences between the two drivers.
"It's a bit everywhere. You can see that Albon has no confidence and has a lot of trouble finding the balance". Doornbos also sees some positive points about Albon. "Albon has done well in all junior classes and also within Toro Rosso Albon drove beautiful races and at Red Bull he will be there on Sunday afternoon. Then at the end of the race you see daring overtaking actions, such as outside and that's what Helmut Marko likes to see", concludes Doornbos.
