Renault will reluctantly supply engines to Red Bull: 'I really hope not'

With the announced departure of Honda, Red Bull will be without an engine in 2022 if they don't secure a deal. None of the manufacturers will be eager to supply engines, but an old acquaintance seems to have promised.
The regulations state that if a team is unable to reach an agreement with an engine supplier on its own, one of the manufacturers is obliged to do so. Since Renault will not be supplying any engines other than its own team after this season, the French manufacturer will be the first to supply Red Bull with engines.
Renault accepts the regulations
The relationship between Red Bull and Renault had cooled down after their collaboration, to say the least. Cyril Abiteboul, however, says that he can just come up with engines if he has to. “We know the regulations and we would comply with the regulations,” he says to Reuters. “I guess that it is only at this point in time that will be discussed if Red Bull fail to find a solution, which I really hope will not be the situation”
So Renault accepts that these are the rules of the game, but they are certainly not looking forward to renewed cooperation. Although Red Bull itself will not be disappointed, it has to be said that the Renault engine has improved enormously over the last two years, both in terms of power and reliability.
