Left and right F1 teams have been bought up in recent years by the fathers of drivers with deep pockets. Lawrence Stroll is in charge at Racing Point and the father of Nicholas Latifi has a pretty good hand at Williams. Another father with money who has been looking after an F1 team for some time is the Russian Dmitry Mazepin.

His son Nikita is currently racing in his second season in Formula 2. He has won twice this year and is sixth in the championship. He has also tested for the Mercedes team before.

In any case not a complete takeover

Mazepin doesn't look like he'll be racing in F1 anytime soon, but he certainly would have the financial backing. Father Mazepin was in the running to buy Force India before Stroll trumped his bid, his eye now seems to be set on the Haas team, Motorsport.com reported earlier this week.

It was supposed to be a complete takeover, but according to the team, none of that is true. "The team is not for sale," said a spokesman for Haas to Formula1News.co.uk
