Red Bull Racing has to look for a new engine supplier by 2022 and the best candidate seems to be Renault. A return to the French manufacturer does, however, create some obstacles, although Christian Horner is already bypassing them.

Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of 2021, so Red Bull will have to look for a new engine supplier. Ferrari and Mercedes will not just give an engine to their competitor and since rules state that the engine supplier must supply the least number of customers to a team that requests it, Renault and Red Bull seem to be dependent on each other.

Horner keeps the door open

The two parties broke up fighting at the end of 2018 and have been criticising each other on several occasions since then. A new collaboration would therefore ensure some behind-the-scenes discussions, and Horner is already on a charm offensive in front of the camera.

''Renault has changed a lot since we left. There's a new board and that's bringing some fresh wind and changes. It's moving forward at Renault'', says the team boss according to Motorsport-Total.com. The team boss is keeping the door open for a return, because the other options don't seem realistic.
