Horner pinpoints hope on 2026, but 'then they have to decide quickly'

After the announced departure of Honda, Red Bull Racing will have to look for a new engine supplier or continue to develop the engines itself. That is not going to be easy, because that development is not cheap and that is also the reason, according to Christian Horner, that there is not much to choose from.
"The cost for a new manufacturer under the current regulations is simply too high", he says on Servus TV. "So I don't see a new manufacturer entering the sport before 2026 with the new engine regulations". New regulations in 2026, he says, are the first chance for change, but we need to do something now.
Horner wants decisions to be made
"The FIA and Liberty really need to get these costs under control on the engine side. They have done a good job on the chassis side. Now we need homologated engines and a budgetcap for these power units in F1," said Red Bull Racing's team boss.
He adds that this needs to be speeded up and that he hopes the departure of Honda has woken up the FIA and Liberty Media a little. "How things will go from 2026 on, they will have to decide in the next six to twelve months at the maximum".
