The Formula 1 teams and drivers have had a week off but it is now time to get back on to the track. After a long break, F1 returns to the Nürburgring, where fantastic races have been held in the past. You can follow how the drivers are doing during the first free practice for the Grand Prix of Eifel with this live blog from GPblog below.

Young talents Callum Ilott and Mick Schumacher will be on display as they make their debut in an official F1 session. Schumacher, who leads the Formula 2 Championship, brings the famous name back to F1 for the first time since his father retired at the end of the 2012 season.

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has finished top of the timesheets in each of the last six FP1 sessions. Find out in the liveblog below if the Finnish man can beat his teammate Lewis Hamilton again in the first session this weekend.

The Nürburgring was last used for the German Grand Prix in 2013. From 2007, the Nürburgring alternated with the Hockenheimring every year, so that the costs for the circuits could be reduced. Since the departure of Michael Schumacher, the popularity of Formula 1 in Germany has experienced a significant decline.

Last win for Vettel

However, the most recent F1 race the Nürburgring saw the fans favourite, Sebastian Vettel, win. Vettel drove from second place to victory in the year in which he went on to win his fourth world title. That was also the last victory in his home country.

Now seven years later we return to the Nürburgring for the first free practice. It will be wet and cold all weekend and those temperatures often cause crashes. How much risk do the teams take. Young talents Callum Ilott and Mick Schumacher will be on display as they make their debut in an official F1 session.
