OFFICIAL: Hulkenberg replaces Stroll for qualifying in Germany
- GPblog.com
Nico Hulkenberg will replace Lance Stroll at Racing Point for qualifying at the Eifel GP this afternoon. Stroll is ill and cannot race today.
Stroll didn't start FP3 at all this morning, the only practice session this weekend due to rain on Friday. It stayed quiet in his garage for a long time, while his car was ready. Halfway through the session, it became known that Stroll wouldn't come out because he didn't feel a hundred percent fit. Further details were not disclosed.
Hulkenberg as a replacement
Soon after, reports dripped in that Nico Hulkenberg might replace Stroll if he wasn't fit enough to start qualifying. Hulkenberg substituted Sergio Perez earlier this season after the Mexican tested positive for the coronavirus.
Hulkenberg would already be on the circuit today due to media obligations. The German now suddenly has to fill in for the pink Mercedes without practice. He does know the Nürburgring: in the past he has raced here in Formula 1. He also knows the team.
