Verstappen closer to Mercedes: "I was expecting a little bit more"
Max Verstappen narrowly missed out on his third pole position of his Formula 1 career. In Q3 the Red Bull Racing driver was the fastest after the first run, but in the end both Mercedes turned out to be faster. Verstappen is content, but he had hoped for a place on the front row.
In conversation with Paul di Resta, Verstappen says on the grid: "Overall I think a decent in qualifying. It's just in Q3, it started understeering a bit too much and when it's so cold, you're graining the front tyres and basically eating up the rubber when that happens. That cost me a bit of lap time."
Verstappen has good rhythm. "We are getting closer to Mercedes which I think is very positive. A little bit disappointing, I was expecting a little bit more but it is what it is," he said.
Verstappen hopes that he can attack Hamilton and Bottas tomorrow in his RB16 from third on the grid. "It will be even colder tomorrow, so it will be even more interesting how the tyres will behave. We will see. It is a nice track to drive, so I look forward to tomorrow," the Limburger concludes.
