Wolff clarifies: "Our focus has been on this since Mugello"

Valtteri Bottas dropped out at the Grand Prix in Germany and it was Lewis Hamilton who took the podium again. It wasn't a flawless weekend at the Eifel Grand Prix, but nevertheless team boss Toto Wolff looks forward optimistically. There's no reason not to, as the Mercedes is virtually unbeatable.
Problem found
Now that the team has figured out the reason why Bottas broke down, this weekend they will have another chance to finish both cars in the points. The fact that the Mercedes, apart from a sporadic technical problem, is going for the wind is no surprise to anyone, and Wolff hopes that that momentum will continue.
In the team's preview he says: "Portimão is the second completely new circuit of the season, which adds some variability to the potential performance picture. We had an exciting race at Mugello, the first new venue this year, and since then we have focused on preparing in the best way possible for the other new circuits and maximizing the rate of learning when we go to a new track - something that will be especially important during the two-day weekend in Imola next week," which in a way is a bigger challenge. After all, they are collecting less data than usual.
"The car's performance was good in the last few events both in Qualifying and in the race and we hope that we can maintain the momentum," something that will work as long as they don't have technical problems.
