BREAKING: Verstappen and Stroll will not receive a grid penalty
Neither Max Verstappen or Lance Stroll will receive a penalty following their clash during FP2 at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The pair crashed at Turn 1, causing a red flag, but the stewards have decided neither driver was exclusively to blame, and therefore have handed out no penalties.
With 20 minutes left in the session, Verstappen expected Stroll to back off after the Canadian completed a quick lap. However, Verstappen didn't realise Stroll was going for two flying laps in a row, so when he went up the inside, the gap closed and the crash happened.
Verstappen was furious over the radio, blaming Stroll for the crash, but Stroll's team boss Otmar Szafnauer believes the blame lay soleley at the door of Verstappen.
However, after meeting with both drivers, the stewards have decided that neither driver will face a penalty.
