Daimler takes a 20% stake in Aston Martin: Will this also affect the F1 teams?
- GPblog.com
Daimler, the owners of Mercedes, has announced that it has bought back 20% of the shares in Aston Martin. Mercedes' parent company now also has a stake in the British brand that will be a Formula 1 team next season.
The Daimler Group already had a small stake in Aston Martin, but according to Motorsport-total.com they have now increased it. Like Toto Wolff, the parent company of Mercedes now has shares in the British brand.
Daimler invests in Aston Martin
It is remarkable that Mercedes and Wolff are showing so much interest in Aston Martin. Daimler often says it wants to cut the budget, but does not hesitate to invest in Stroll's company. The CEO of Aston Martin and F1 team Racing Point, however, is very pleased with the investment.
The British Aston Martin brand is in principle separate from the Formula 1 team that will be called Aston Martin from 2021, but the fact that Daimler and Wolff are investing in it after Racing Point has already been made aware of copying the other car is remarkable. To what extent will these ties between the teams be further strengthened, also in view of the friendly relationship that already existed between Wolff and Stroll?
