Ferrari were unable to perform as well as they would've liked in qualifying. In their third home event of the season, Charles Leclerc was the fastest of the two Ferrari cars, finishing in seventh-place.

Gap was too big

Leclerc is not happy with his qualifying result. “I'm not completely satisfied, especially when you look at the gap to P4. I expected a little more, but it is the way it is. We weren't as competitive as we wanted today, but tomorrow is the race and that's where we score the points. ”

Leclerc had to take a gamble and therefore started a run on the medium tyre in Q2. This gamble didn't fare as well as expected as both the Monegasque and his teammate Sebastian Vettel weren't fast enough to advance to Q3 on the mediums.

Trust was lacking

“I'll try to maximise everything we have. We did the second run on the softs [In Q2], because we didn't have as much confidence to continue as we had in Portimao. So we chose the softs. It will not be easy," Leclerc concludes.
