Verstappen after blowout and fight Bottas: "That was my only chance"
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen seemed to be on his way to a neat second place after the Dutchman passed Valtteri Bottas on lap 43. Not much later, the Red Bull car had a massive failure and suffered a blowout and was forced to retire from the race.
"It just sucks," says the Red Bull driver to Ziggo Sport. "The tyre suddenly crashed. The start was good and then I just tried to stay close to Bottas, even though I think they had a little more speed. Pit stop made and then I was stuck behind Valtteri, which I think had damage to the floor."
Verstappen not interested in outcome
Verstappen then looks up. The interview was held during the race and at that moment the battle for third place was going on. However, he soon comes to the conclusion: "Whatever the difference.
"It sucks. Three times zero in Italy, so it's not good. It could be a very good race. That [Bottas' mistake] was my only chance. He made a few mistakes there and it was a bit bigger than the others. Then we got past it and you normally just get second place."
