Max Verstappen was unable to convert a strong start, in which he had overtaken Lewis Hamilton, into a podium place in Imola. After a nice fight with Valtteri Bottas and several laps to go, the left rear tyre of his Red Bull Racing collapsed.

Strong race, but no points

"Yeah, the start was good, I got Lewis right away. After that, I tried to stay with Valtteri and he had damage to his floor, so we lost a lot of time. Of course, Lewis passed us at the pit stops and when I got past Valtteri the speed was good," said Verstappen at Sky Sports F1.

"I lost the car out of nowhere on the straight because of a blowout. I don't know what happened exactly, when I looked at the car nothing seemed to be broken. It's a real shame. I really tried to stay with them and it was really fun. So it was a shame not to be on the podium," Verstappen concludes.
