Coulthard on Sainz to Ferrari: "I'll give him six months"

For the 2021 season, Carlos Sainz moves from McLaren to Ferrari. In the early stages of the current season, this seemed like a big promotion, but so far Ferrari's results have been disappointing.
If he regrets the move, there is not much he can do about it now. However, it is expected that Ferrari will be able to climb back to the top. However, the question is how long this will take? The team itself indicated earlier that they are already looking at 2022 for this.
At Ferrari, Sainz will be the new teammate of Charles Leclerc, who has achieved good results there from the start. Again, he usually manages to get the maximum result out of the car. So Leclerc will have a big problem, and he will have to try to be there from the start.
He has to be there from the beginning
David Coulthard thinks the two can do a lot together to make both the team and each other better, as long as Sainz doesn't let Leclerc's lead become too big.
"They're both young, and they both need to know their roles within the team. I think they will be mainly developing the car. They will also start to measure up to each other, which means Carlos has to be there from the start," says the Scotsman on Channel 4.
"Charles already knows how everything works and he knows everyone. That gives him a head start. You'll notice that on the track, especially in the beginning. Carlos will have to perform right away to be able to withstand that. I'll give him six months. If he's not close to Charles 'level by then, I'm afraid his stay at Ferrari won't be long," the former Formula 1 driver said.
