A lot of crazy things happened during the qualifying session in Turkey. Lance Stroll took pole and both Mercedes were nowhere to be seen. What was that all about?

In the end, Lewis Hamilton finished sixth in qualifying and Valtteri Bottas ninth. Disappointing places for the team, which secured the constructors' championship in the previous race. Hamilton could be World Champion tomorrow, but the crazy grid will have to wait and see if he can do that.

Temperature problem

Toto Wolff, team boss of Mercedes, says to Sky Deutschland that he knows where the problem lay today. "We knew we had a temperature problem. That came into play today," Wolff reveals and explains: "The biggest challenge was getting the tyres up to temperature. We never really managed to do that. And if you're not in a hole, you don't have grip.

"It's about how you warm up. We were actually always pretty good over the average, so temperatures stayed pretty low - especially on the rear tyres. And that wasn't to our advantage today," Wolff explains. But he also sees something positive: "A good day for us to learn. This is the first race that somehow isn't going the way we want. We will come out stronger."
