Toto Wolff has done the unthinkable as team boss of Mercedes. The team now holds the record for most consecutive titles as a team in Formula 1. The Austrian states that nothing is self-evident for Mercedes.

Taking Ferrari's throne

"I think the run for seven consecutive titles is not something we would have imagined as ever been possible. The all-time record in Formula 1 from Ferrari, doing it six times in a row with Michael Schumacher, was something that was unprecedented," Wolff opens the interview with Formula 1.

"And also in the wider sports world, it’s very difficult to find so many consecutive victories. But whilst you’re in there, you don’t realise that you are on a path different to what you normally see, with fluctuations between teams performances," explains Wolff. The Austrian says he never expected Mercedes to be so successful when he joined the team in 2014.

Room for improvement

"We’ve learned from the past. In any circumstance you need to avoid a sense of entitlement and stay humble," continues the team boss.

Mercedes never sees itself as being good enough, Wolff explains. The team doesn't take anything for granted. "And with all of us is that we see the next loss just around the corner. That permanent skepticism and fear of losing is something that just drives us all the time," concludes Wolff.
