Ricciardo: "This is probably the best since 2016"
- GPblog.com
Daniel Ricciardo had good years and bad years at Red Bull Racing. In 2019, he moved to Renault where they are trying to build something. In 2020, he reaped the benefits. The Australian calls the 2020 season his best since 2016.
Rewarding season for Ricciardo
In the shortened F1 season of 2020, Ricciardo has consistently scored points. The Honey Badger even made it to the podium twice. In good shape, he fights Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc for fourth place in the championship.
Logically, the Renault driver is calling this season his most rewarding season since 2016. When asked by Motorsport.com he says: "I would have to review this at the end of the season, but so far I think so. I'm enjoying myself very much at the moment.
2016 and 2020 top years for Ricciardo
"It's very cool," Ricciardo continues. "You're probably right; 2016 was a very good year with Red Bull. This year is probably the best, or most satisfying, year since then".
Although Ricciardo has already reaped the benefits at Renault after one year of investment in 2020, his move to McLaren in 2021 is already fixed. The former teammate of Max Verstappen is not yet looking at next year but is still mainly focused on Renault.
Ricciardo concludes: "It was fun last year too, even though we did not achieve the intended results. It was just as much fun trying to build a team. This year was definitely more fun. Building the team has had some good results".
