Lewis Hamilton wins in race overshadowed by Romain Grosjean’s crash
Lewis Hamilton put in another impressive display to win the Bahrain Grand Prix this Sunday. Max Verstappen finished P2 with Alex Albon completing the podium and continuing his campaign to remain in Formula 1 next season.
However, despite the results, the main talking point after the race is Romain Grosjean. The Frenchman suffered a horrific crash and the race was red flagged before it properly started.
Grosjean lost control of his Haas and crashed into the barrier. His car exploded and split in two but he managed to escape the flames. The Haas driver is believed to be ok and was seen out of the car after a tense few minutes in which the Formula 1 world held their breaths. The general consensus is that Grosjean is lucky to be alive and that it was the halo that saved him. He was flown to hospital and reports suggest he is suffering from broken ribs and minor burns.

The barrier was repaired and 45 minutes later the race resumed but it wasn’t long before it was stopped again.
The safety car came out almost immediately after the race restarted. Lance Stroll’s car was left hanging upside down after Kvyat, who had made contact with Grosjean in the earlier crash, hit the Racing Point causing it to flip and look like a turtle on its back.

Stroll was ok but it took a few laps to clear his car. During the safety car Bottas had to pit as he had a puncture and put new tyres on dropping him down to 16th.
The race started for the third time on lap 9 and Lewis Hamilton led from the front and never looked in doubt of picking up the win.
Sainz vs Leclerc
The two drivers will be teammates at Ferrari next season and it was the Spaniard who got the better result today. The two went wheel to wheel on two occasions and it was nail biting racing between the two of them. Leclerc didn’t give up and kept fighting for every inch despite his car being “undriveable.”
Tense stuff between the two who will both be wearing red next year!
Sergio Perez vs Alex Albon
The battle for next year’s Red Bull Racing seat? Perez had driven the perfect race and looked like he would get P3 until the final laps where his engine caught fire and he was forced to retire. Albon therefore inherited the last podium position and might be doing just enough to keep his seat for next season.
This means that both Racing Point's didn't finish the race.
Renault battle
Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon had a battle as close as any team would like to see their drivers race. It was the Australian who was able to pip the Frenchman but the two were very equally matched on pace and spent much of the race battling for position.
Valtteri Bottas
It was a very disappointing race for the Finn who was out of contention the minute that he got his puncture. He came in P8 and it's another race to forget for Bottas.
The race ended under the safety car after Perez's failure with Verstappen getting the extra point for the fastest lap.
