George Russell will replace Lewis Hamilton for the Sakhir Grand Prix after the seven-time world champion became infected with the coronavirus. Jack Aitken takes over Russell's place at Williams.

Russell has not yet scored a single point in Formula 1, but he will have the best chance of doing so this weekend. Indeed, with a Mercedes at his disposal, Russell should even be able to drive straight to the podium. Russell himself is extremely pleased with the opportunity.

''First of all, I would like to thank everyone at Williams very much for giving me this opportunity. I may be wearing a different racing suit this weekend, but I am a Williams driver and I will applaud my team every step of the way. I see this as a great opportunity to learn from the best team on the grid now and to come back as an improved driver, with even more energy and experience to help Williams move forward," Russell said in Williams' statement.

''A big thank you also to Mercedes for the confidence they have placed in me. Obviously no one can replace Lewis, but I will give everything for the team in his absence from the moment I get in the car. The most important thing is that I wish him a speedy recovery. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity and I can't wait to get on track this week," concludes the Brit.
