The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has closed the Formula 1 season for many years now and despite the coronavirus-ravaged season, that still rings true in 2022  The World Championships have been decided for sometime, but there is still plenty to fight for and that starts in the first free practice session.

Lots of changes in Abu Dhabi

Because the first free practice is held local time in the afternoon and the qualifying and the race in the evening, the first free practice is generally not that relevant for the teams and drivers. However, Pirelli have brought the tyres for 2021, so the drivers will want to use that tyre as much as possible to gather data for themselves and Pirelli.

Mick Schumacher also makes his long-awaited debut in Formula 1 during the first practice. At first, it looked like he would replace Romain Grosjean for the whole weekend, but that honour is again for Pietro Fittipaldi. Kevin Magnussen will drop one practice session this weekend.
