Alexander Albon says that his qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is one of his best in F1 as he set the fifth fastest time of the session. After the first runs in Q3, Albon was less than two-tenths behind provisional pole sitter Valtteri Bottas, before the top three all improved and Lando Norris pipped the Thai driver.

Albon's teammate Max Verstappen took pole position, but Albon was still happy with his performance. After the session he told Sky Sports: "Honestly, it wasn't bad, I felt like it was one of my more competitive qualifyings this year. Just disappointed for the second run because it was looking good. On the second run I pushed too hard and the tyres went off.

"The car was good. It was close out there. The Mercs were as quick as everyone expected them to be. It's been a good weekend and we keep going and focus on the race."
