Lammers had doubts about Honda: "The question was whether top speed was sufficient
Jan Lammers saw Max Verstappen very convincingly fly to his tenth Grand Prix victory in Abu Dhabi. At the Yas Marina Circuit, he was not pressured by Mercedes. Only in the opening phase was it still very exciting when Sergio Perez's car provided a safety car.
"Maybe just with that virtual safety car and then that safety car, but Max had it all in hand," says Lammers in the commentary at NOS Studio Sport.
Honda are not crazy
The track in the United Arab Emirates has two long straights, so the question was how the Honda would perform, but the Japanese engine makers also had their business well organised. "The question was whether the top speed was sufficient, but the Mercedes have not actually been close. A fantastic race, a great ending."
The basis for the victory was laid by Verstappen when the lights went out. "Bottas immediately made a mistake in the first corner, while Max did a fantastic job. Even when that safety car came, he did exactly the same. He immediately drew a gap and that only expanded that lead. Max was very convincing. best today," said Lammers.
