Young Driver Test: Alonso fastest ahead of De Vries
- GPblog.com
Fernando Alonso currently leads the Young Drivers Test in Abu Dhabi whilst Sebastian Buemi had a nasty moment. Stoffel Vandoorne topped the morning session as Yuki Tsunoda spun.
Alonso is number one at the moment, although times do not say everything during such a test, of course. However, it is an extra chance for the drivers and the teams to test certain things.
Sebastian Buemi has already driven in Formula 1 , but he was in the wall this morning with his Red Bull. With a fifth fastest time he was a lot faster than the young Juri Vips, but whilst Vips was still on the track, Buemi had to go to the garage.

Vandoorne at the top after morning session, Zhou and Tsunoda spinning
Stoffel Vandoorne finished at the top of the timesheets of the morning session. Of course, times don't say everything, but with Nyck de Vries in P3, Mercedes are on top. There were also many spins. Yuki Tsunoda and Guanyu Zhou both suffered spins.

Last hour has begun
The sessions in Abu Dhabi are gradually coming to an end and Stoffel Vandoorne's time is still at the top of the list. However, Tsunoda is doing good business and has moved to fourth position in terms of time with about forty minutes left on the clock. The young Japanese rider in the AlphaTauri has now completed 100 laps, but is certainly not the only one.
Mick Schumacher is also frequently found on the track, who has just driven out again to increase the number of 104 laps so far. Some footage of that have appeared, see below.

Session ended
The session is over. Fernando Alonso managed to set the fastest time in his Renault at the end of the session. Nyck de Vries is doing good business and sets the second fastest time at two tenths. This makes him faster than fellow Mercedes driver Stoffel Vandoorne.
