Verstappen: "I think this was the best decision for the team"

Max Verstappen welcomes a new teammate at Red Bull Racing in 2021. The Dutchman regrets that Alexander Albon has to leave, but thinks his team have made the best decision.
Verstappen happy with Perez
In 2020, the position of Alexander Albon was under discussion the whole time. Was the Thai to be retained despite his mediocre performance? In the end Red Bull had no choice but to choose another driver and that other driver became Sergio Perez . Verstappen is very happy with that choice.
"I think this was the best decision for the team. Sergio is very relaxed and of course very fast on the track. It is of course better for the team to have the fastest possible driver in the second car. Sergio did very well for Racing Point in 2020 and hopefully, we will be able to ride at the front next year," said Verstappen on Talk am Sport on ServusTV.
Great ending of 2020
Verstappen, however, also thinks of Albon, with whom he has been able to work for a season and a half. "It's a pity, because we've known each other for quite a long time now. He is really fast, but this year it was just very difficult for him," said the driver of Red Bull Racing, who managed to achieve another victory in Abu Dhabi.
"Abu Dhabi was a great weekend. I didn't expect that we could be so dominant and win. That was good for the team and promises a lot for next year. The fact that I wanted to reduce the engine was a counter to a team that we had done everything right, but also as a signal to the competition. Of course there is always room for improvement, but in Abu Dhabi it was very good," Verstappen concluded.
