Lammers optimistic: 'Next year could be the year of Verstappen'

In 2020 Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing had actually expected that they could finally have taken on Mercedes. However, apart from two victories, it was another dominant season for the German team. Jan Lammers explains to the Dutch news site AD that next year the chances are better for the Dutchman.
"Next year could just be the year of Verstappen. It all looked good during the last race. Max had a clear weekend there. I think we only have the real picture after a few races. Hopefully they will then be able to offer Mercedes competition and sometimes even beat it. That would be impressive," Lammers explains. According to the former F1 driver, Red Bull already has enough small developments.
Midfield to the top?
"Don't underestimate it, small changes can make big differences. Maybe those last two to three percent can make a big difference. If they can find those small improvements they can then win races more regularly from Mercedes." According to the Dutchman, teams from midfield can make the leap towards Red Bull and Mercedes.
"Teams like McLaren have a fantastic track record. Next year they will drive with Mercedes engines. Ferrari will come with a new engine and a lot of small changes, which can make a big difference. You can't really write anybody off now. You won't really know what the differences are until the end of the first race," concludes Lammers.
