Vettel: 'Certainly in qualifying I was far from the limit of the car'

The last two years at Ferrari have been very difficult for Sebastian Vettel. In 2019 he was already overshadowed by Charles Leclerc and last season the difference was even bigger. In addition, the former world champion did not always feel that he had the full support of his team.

Particularly in 2019, Vettel's trust was violated a number of times when Leclerc failed to honour previous agreements. The fact that Mattia Binotto put him aside with a simple phone call just before the start of the 2020 season will not have helped either.

Vettel needs confidence in several areas

"Trust is extremely important," says Vettel in an interview with the Frankfurter Rundschau. "Because you want to achieve something together and not be alone, and trust is the breeding ground for that. The opposite in distrust and the path you then want to take together can sometimes be very far away".

Vettel emphasises not only trust in the cooperation with the team, but also in the driving behaviour of his car, something with which he had major problems, especially in his last year. "There was nothing specifically wrong, but it was a sum of small things, especially in qualifying I was therefore far from the limit of the car", agrees Vettel, who is now looking forward to a new adventure with Aston Martin.
