Aston Martin interesting project: "Quite a bit of involvement of AMG engineers"
- GPblog.com
Racing Point already knocked on the door of the absolute top a couple of times thanks to the new investments of Lawrence Stroll and the close cooperation with Mercedes last season. Ernest Knoors thinks that this upward trend will continue under Aston Martin.
"I think Aston Martin is a very interesting project to keep an eye on for the future. I think there is also a bit of shifting of important people behind the scenes in Formula 1," says the former Formula 1 engine specialist to RTLGP.
Although of course he cannot predict exactly who these people will be, the link with Mercedes is quickly established. Toto Wolff is already involved behind the scenes in the Aston Martin group of companies, and people from Mercedes are also coming over in other racing classes.
Aston Martin better choice than Ferrari at the moment
"It's a bit of a guess if you're not really in it, but I do suspect that more is happening at Aston Martin than we are seeing now, that there is a bigger plan behind it. Aston Martin already has cars in other championships and there is quite a bit of involvement from AMG engineers there. Those are things that do point in a certain direction, let me put it this way."
That is not surprising, given that Mercedes is a significant shareholder in Aston Martin. Finally, on the question of who will have a better future in the short term between Vettel and Sainz, Knoors says: "I would say that Vettel has made a better choice than Sainz, but Ferrari will emerge at some point."
