Wish of DTM-topman comes true: 'Great asset for the championship'

Alexander Albon will be in action in DTM in 2021, and with this he has managed to secure a racing seat after being relegated to the rank of reserve driver at Red Bull Racing. Gerhard Berger is very happy with this new driver.
DTM is an autosport class that has been highly regarded for years, but in recent years the class seemed to be dying. The departure of Mercedes at the end of 2018 was followed in 2020 by the announcement that BMW would leave. This left only Audi for 2021 and a championship with only one brand is of course not an interesting class.
Berger in his stride with Albon
Berger, however, was ambitious. ''I want to have twenty cars, five makes and strong drivers at the start of the new season," said the DTM top man, and he gets help. There will be two teams with a McLaren at the start and Mercedes-Benz will also supply a car. Now that Red Bull is also interested, DTM can suddenly take another big step.
Berger is very happy with Albon's arrival. ''Albon is a young, ambitious driver and a great asset for the DTM. DTM will become stronger and more important internationally," concluded the former Formula 1 driver speaking to Bild.
