Full programme in 2021
Vandoorne suffered a huge disappointment at the end of 2020 when not he, but George Russell, was given the opportunity to fill in for Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix. However, the Belgian had to get over that quickly, because there is a busy schedule ahead of him in 2021.
Vandoorne is now part of Mercedes and fulfils the role of reserve driver for that team, but is also part of the Formula E team. In his second season in that class he drove to second place in the standings last season. Where he will be looking for the title in that class, he can write another championship to his name.
Vandoorne in WEC
For the team of Jota Sport, Vandoorne will be active in the WEC again. He raced for SMP Racing in 2018 and 2019 and was on the podium three times, he is now making his appearance for Jota Sport in an LMP2 car. He will drive the car with Sean Gelael and Tom Blomqvist.
''It will be very good to combine this championship with my season in Formula E and I am really looking forward to getting started. Jota is a great team and super competitive. To be able to do this together with Tom and Sean is great, because they are two of my best racing friends," concluded the Belgian speaking to Autosport.com.
