Ferrari top of Red Bull's list for DTM entry
- GPblog.com
Alexander Albon will not be back in Formula 1 with Red Bull Racing in 2021 full time and will have to settle for a reserve role. The Thai driver will compete in the DTM with Red Bull Racing and there he will probably race a Ferrari.
No full DTM season
Albon will be replaced by Sergio Perez, although the 24-year-old driver remains closely associated with Red Bull. He is the team's test and reserve driver and also races for Red Bull in the DTM. Because Albon is required to be present at all F1 races, he will not be able to drive the entire DTM season.
Motorsport.com has found out that Albon will probably share his seat with Nick Cassidy. Cassidy is familiar with the GT cars that the DTM will run from 2021. The New Zealander has been active in the Japanese Super GT and Super Formula where he won titles.
Ferrari and Red Bull to work together
Although Red Bull are running Honda engines in Formula 1, it does not appear that the team will be starting the DTM season with a Honda NSX. Motorsport reports that Albon and Red Bull will race a Ferrari 488 GT3 car.
Red Bull and Ferrari are not strangers to each other as Red Bull drove Ferrari engines in Formula 1 in 2006. Sister team Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) also raced with Ferrari engines from 2007 to 2013.
