Red Bull moves Vips and Lawson to Formula 2 for final test

Liam Lawson and Juri Vips will compete in Formula 2 for Hitech in 2021. The two Red Bull talents are making the final step towards Formula 1 and it will be a busy season for Lawson alongside his DTM programme.
Red Bull makes the step
Not a lot of Red Bull talent has broken through in recent years, but there are a lot of guys knocking on the door again. Yuki Tsunoda is set to make the switch to Formula 1 in 2021, but with Jehan Daruvala and now Liam Lawson and Juri Vips, Red Bull is once again well represented in Formula 2.
Lawson has been promoted to the next level after competing for the top spot in Formula 3 with lesser Hitech equipment. With more points than all his teammates put together, the New Zealander made a big impression. At 20 years old, Vips is already a bit older and has even been on the podium in the eight races he has been allowed to drive in F2 in 2020. However, after his ADAC Formula 4 victory in 2017, he did not win any more titles.
Two enthusiastic talents
''I am excited to be racing with Hitech in F2 this year. After two years in Formula 3, I feel ready to compete in this championship and do a good job for the team. I learned a lot in the F2 test in Bahrain with Hitech and got a good feeling with the car. Having said that, there is definitely a lot more to learn, so I am looking forward to the challenge ahead of me,'' Lawson said in the statement.
''I am really looking forward to working with Hitech again. We had a good year in F3 in 2019, but we have some unfinished business together. They had a great season in their first year in F2 and I am confident that we will be able to fight for the title this season,'' concludes the Estonian.
