Giovinazzi hurt by Ferrari's choice for Sainz: "Seems logical to me"

Where Red Bull Racing could not fill their seats for 2021 with drivers from their own training, they actually have the same problem at Ferrari. They brought in a former Red Bull junior for 2021 because they felt their own talent was not good enough or ready.

Antonio Giovinazzi disagrees. Although the chance of him being called up to replace Sebastian Vettel seemed very unlikely, the Italian clearly still hoped for it. As a result, he feels he has been passed over.

"Sainz to Ferrari. I was obviously hurt by that, that seems logical to me," he said in an interview with Italian magazine Autosprint. "I am still employed by Ferrari and I thought there would be a chance to race for the Scuderia. Maybe it was not the right moment for me."

Giovinazzi not giving up hope yet

The rejection is no reason for Giovinazzi to look elsewhere. He still hopes to race for the Scuderia one day. "That they chose Sainz doesn't mean I don't have a chance for that position in the future. A place at Ferrari will always be my dream."

So it is for the many Italian fans. The last time an Italian drove for Ferrari was Giancarlo Fisichella in 2009. It was not a success then. Fisichella also dreamed his whole career of playing for Ferrari. At the very end of his career he got his chance as a replacement for the injured Felipe Massa, but scored zero points in four races.
