Lewis Hamilton has yet to sign a new contract for the 2021 Formula One season. The Briton's contract expired at the end of 2020 and nothing has been announced since. However, it is a matter of time according to Toto Wolff.

As the seven-time world champion, it is of course strange that Lewis Hamilton is the only one not yet sure of his seat in Formula 1. Hamilton could win his eighth world title in 2021 and thus break Michael Schumacher's record, but the parties are still too far apart.

Hamilton will re-sign

''We might not make it easy for them (the lawyers) either,'' laughs Toto Wolff about the contract situation at ORF. Hamilton reportedly wants a new 45 million euro contract and to sign a multi-year deal. The latter seems to be a big stumbling block for Mercedes. The Germans only want to offer a one-year deal.

However, according to Wolff, the fans of Lewis and Mercedes have nothing to worry about. ''We have to have a new contract before Bahrain at the latest, but we are absolutely going to make sure that this will happen,'' concludes the team boss of the team that has won the last seven world titles.
