Pirelli presents tyres for 2021: High wear expected in the Netherlands

19 February 2021 at 09:46

Pirelli announced the tyre choices for the coming season on Friday morning. All drivers and teams will receive exactly the same amount of tyres in 2021 and now it is also known in advance when which tyre will be used.

Pirelli tyres have always been an important topic of discussion in Formula 1, and in recent years it has often been about which tyres to use for the weekend. Pirelli has now already resolved those questions, with a complete schedule for the 2021 season.

Hardest tyres in the Netherlands

With five compounds (C1,2,3,4 and 5) Pirelli again has three variants at their disposal. The three softest possible tyres, the three hardest possible tyres and the three that fall right in between. The softest variety can be seen in Monaco, Azerbaijan, Canada, Russia, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. Circuits where wear is lowest.

The hardest compounds will be deployed more often this year, which is not surprising. Pirelli fears the increase in grip of the cars and it is hoped that a debacle like in Silverstone cannot take place again. In 2021, Pirelli will therefore choose the three hardest tyres in Britain, but also in Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands and Japan. All other races have to do with the C2, C3 and C.
