Nico Hulkenberg showed himself to be a driver who deserves to drive Formula 1 during his raids for Racing Point in 2020. Yet, in 2021, he is back on the sidelines. He may be bitter about that, but he's not. He's just fully focused on the next opportunity.

Hulkenberg has not yet given up on continuing his F1 career, despite perhaps less talented drivers winning F1 seats in 2021. "That's how it works. I've been in this world too long to let that affect me," the German told GQ Magazin.

Stroll will not be sidelined

Still, it's a shame he won't be there in 2021. The raids at Racing Point were nothing short of impressive. Not so much because of the final result but because he was called in at the very last moment. Especially at the Nürburgring, when he had not driven a single meter before qualifying, he delivered a unique performance.

So it's not surprising that people are saying that he will take his place alongside Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin next season. "Sebastian already has a teammate, so I won't drive that car, that's a fact. Still, I would like to stay in Formula 1 and try to find a permanent seat for 2022. Who knows what will happen this year. I'll just let it come to me and then I'll just have to do it again like in 2020."
